The COC women’s soccer team has earned another Western State Conference South Championship after concluding its regular season with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Citrus College on Friday.
Sophomore Kelsey Sherry scored the lone COC goal in the 58th minute, off an assist from forward Mariss Kneisel, to give Canyons the win, a conference championship and an automatic postseason berth.
With the victory, COC completes the season sweep of Citrus College, which it had previously defeated 6-0 back on Oct. 21.
The Cougars finish the regular season 15-2-3, with a 12-1-1 mark in conference play.
COC head coach Justin Lundin and the Cougars have now posted a winning record in each of the last six seasons, while winning four straight WSC Championships (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014).
The Cougars will now wait to see who they face in the opening round of the CCCAA Regional Playoffs, which begin Saturday, Nov. 22.
