1997 - Five bodies found during grading of Northlake development in Castaic; determined to be Jenkins graveyard [story]
reburial

A body found hanging from a tree Thursday in the Santa Clara River bed in Canyon County was identified by a coroner’s official Friday.

Preliminary reports indicate the death of Luis Alejandro Novoa Segura, 24, of Canyon Country, was a suicide, said Lt. R. Hays of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The determination could change after the medical examiner completes an autopsy, he said.

Nova Segura’s family reportedly found the him in the wash behind Soledad Canyon Road, near Camp Plenty Road, and called medical personnel. He was declared dead at the scene.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials received a report of a dead body found around 3 p.m., according to Lt. Rob Hahnlein of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Homicide detectives were not available Thursday to comment on their investigation.
