Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information

Snapshot 11/18/2013 – 11/24/2013

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country East:

(4) Residential burglaries, (2) Theft, (1) Vehicle Burglary

During the past week we saw a reduction in part 1 crimes in Zone 8 compared to the prior week. There were four residential burglaries reported last week.  One of the incidents occurred near the 17000 block of Harris Way.  In this incident the suspects entered through the front door of the location.  The suspect(s) stole an IPod from inside the location. On the way out of the location the suspect(s) found the victim’s car keys that were hanging up in the garage and stole the victims 2005 Jeep Cherokee.  The vehicle was later recovered close to the area it was stolen from.

Another incident occurred near the 28000 Winterdale Drive.  In this incident the suspect shattered the rear window to the location and entered through the kitchen.  The suspect(s) ransacked the house and stole several thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry and electronics.

A residential burglary was reported the 18000 block of Danielson Street.  The suspects entered the location through the victim’s garage.   The suspect stole an “HP” 10” tablet from inside of the apartment.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has 10 holiday shopping safety tips for you that we would like you to remember this holiday season.

– Expect to encounter crowds and long lines.  When shopping with your children, especially younger children, snap a photo of each one with your smart phone before heading out.  If your child becomes separated from you, you will have a current photo and an accurate clothing description to provide to store security and law enforcement.

– Be aware of your surroundings.

– Do not purchase items from non-licenses solicitors in parking lots

– Make sure valuable items are not left in plain sight in vehicles.

– Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.  If you see something, say something.

– Practice patience! Long lines can lead to short tempers. Expect to encounter possibly frustrating delays on major shopping days.

– Never leave your purse, wallet, cell phone, or shopping cart unattended.

– Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused.

– Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, con-artists may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.

– Commit random acts of kindness, and do whatever you know is right.
