SERVICES: A service for Dana Cop will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McBean Parkway at 11 a.m., with a graveside service to be held at 1:30 p.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park.

Longtime Santa Clarita Valley business leader and phone company rep Dana Cop died Sunday, April 12, 2015, from breast cancer. She was 43.

Cop was the director of external affairs for AT&T, and through that position and her longtime involvement in the community, she touched numerous lives.

“She was the ultimate mother, the ultimate wife, the ultimate friend and the ultimate employee,” said Tami Edwards, a longtime friend. “She never had a bad word to say about anybody, and she was everyone’s cheerleader,” she added, describing her supportive nature.

danacopCop was “diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at age 41 with no family history,” according to her blog, “My journey.”

Her first blog post starts in September 2013, discussing her reaction to the diagnosis, and then chronicling her battle for the last two years.

Dana Delmatoff Cop and Edwards were friends at Hart High, where Dana met her “high school sweetheart,” Peter, Edwards said.

Peter was slightly older, and Dana followed him to the University of Utah, where she studied economics and marketing. The two married and had three children, she added.

Her courage in the fight against breast cancer is a model for women everywhere, said Jeri Seratti Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM-1220, who considered Cop a valued friend, and called her death “a huge loss for the community.”

“It’s so incredibly sad that cancer has taken another life at such a young age,” Seratti Goldman said. “This loss reminds us all of how important it is to support the fight against such a deadly disease.”

Cop was chairman of the Board of Directors for the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2011. While her career led her to become involved in the chamber for numerous cities, her drive and passion for her hometown showed the type of committed and passionate person she was, said Terri Crain, CEO of the SCV Chamber. She also served on the board for the YMCA.

“Dana was an amazing person and an amazing human being,” Crain said. “I don’t know anyone who could say anything negative about her. She certainly had her own drive and commitment and passion for the Santa Clarita Valley.”

At AT&T, she was praised for her high ethical standards and community dedication, said Rich Roche, who worked alongside Cop.

“Dana was a good friend and a great parent,” said Roche, who worked with Cop for about 10 years. “She loved her kids more than anything, and she was a force of nature — when there was something to be done in the community, whether it was for her, her family or for others.”

From Sue Nevius, Chairman, Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce:

It is with heartfelt sadness I ‘m letting you know that Dana Cop passed away yesterday, Sunday, April 12th, 2015. As most of you know Dana fought her battle win cancer with strength and dignity and is an inspiration to all of us.

Dana was the SCV Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board in 2011. In her tenure as a Chamber Board member, Dana did much for the Chamber and Community with her sponsorships, leadership and her wonderful sense of humor.  If Dana ever had a bad day you would never know.

Please keep Dana’s husband, Peter, and their three children and the rest of her friends and family in your prayers.
