1892 - Benjamin Harrison establishes 555,520-acre San Gabriel Timberland Reserve (Angeles National Forest). First forest reserve in California, second in U.S. [story]

While on patrol in Val Verde Saturday afternoon, Deputy Foster and Deputy Kunz noticed a lost black Labrador retriever near a busy road. Concerned for the dog’s safety, they were able to pull over and check the dog’s tags for owner information.

The dog got safely escorted back to its home in the back of a patrol car.

The dog’s owner was very grateful; she was not even aware her dog had escaped.

This dog is Benny, he constantly gets out and would come over to play with our dogs, we would call the owners and they would come pick him eventually, his owner told us to stop allowing him into the property. That it encouraged him to leave their home. So now he walks infront of cars and still gets out. He’s actually a really cool dog.

    • Poor doggie…the owners are lucky the cops saved him. How does he get out? At our previous home, we actually repaired the neighbors fence for them cuz they weren’t gonna do it. All we got were dirty looks in return. Oh well…at least the dogs were safe. ?

    • Oh my..people need to take responsibility for their actions (in this instance a lack of action) rather than blame others. SMH. I feel bad for the dog.

    • Nita Ramirez says:

Yeah, I don’t know what type of fence they have, but it isn’t working. He was out and about last night, after dark running around and cutting cars off.

  8. Handsome…and the dog is cute too!

  9. Awesome-sauce. Cops rule! ?

  10. SCV Sheriff’s Dept, thank you for your service to our community!

  11. Thank you for the service you provide.

  12. Janine Valvo says:

They should try to do something to keep the dog from getting out and the way these people drive out here i rathher have it at a person house than almost getting killed on the road

    • I agree. The dogs name is Benny. He is in our home now. We bought our home from his owners who lived here previously and he has been escaping from his new home for three years on and off now. His owners are always surprised that he’s out or haven’t realized. We have housed him for up to two weeks at a time without his owners coming to pick him up. He actually just arrived to our house again about twenty minutes ago. I’m not sure how hard his owners have tried to keep him safe.

  13. Janine Valvo says:

Im glad the dog was safe because of the deputies

  14. Cathy Cotton says:

I hope the owners get sited. My friends Lab got killed by a car. This is No joke.

Thank you SCVTV for circling the dog. I would have been wondering which one was the Labrador! Good job, deputies.

  18. Charles Kunz… you are a doggie hero!!!!!!!

  19. Cynthia Kimura says:

Does anyone know if Benny is neutered? If he’s not, it could explain why he has a tendency to roam. It is generally agreed that neutering your pet can help curb this behavior. If Benny or any other Val Verde dog, cat, or rabbit is in need of the procedure, please contact me. I have a low cost solution for Val Verde residents.

  20. Jeanne says:

Great! I love to see Deputies acting like our neighbors and not the enemy many think they are.
