[KHTS] – Santa Clarita residents gave a warm welcome to a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in the Santa Clarita Valley early Wednesday morning.

Dozens waited in line at the new Sierra Highway location Wednesday where doors opened at 4:30 a.m.

“We’re happy to open the doors to Dunkin’ Donuts’ very first Santa Clarita Valley restaurant and to provide the residents of Santa Clarita with the brand’s iconic offerings,” said franchisee Lars Ottosson, in a news release. “We’re confident that this location will be a go-to destination for local commuters and residents alike due to Dunkin’ Donuts’ fast and friendly service and high-quality baked goods, sandwiches and beverages.”

Sally and Adam Lieberman and their two children, Canyon High School sophomore Anna and Emma, an eighth grade Sierra Vista Junior High School student, were first in line Wednesday morning. They arrived around 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Sally and Adam Lieberman are originally from the east coast and have been waiting for a Dunkin’ Donuts in California for 20 years, Sally Lieberman said. Her father, who lives in Florida, would ship Dunkin’ Donuts old fashioned donuts to her when she had pregnancy cravings.

“We had been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, watching it be built,” Sally Lieberman said. “We we’re so excited and we had so much fun.”

The Liebermans were first in line for the drive-thru and the front door, scoring them free coffee for a year in the form of $700 worth of giftcards.

The first 100 guests received a Dunkin’ Donuts tote bag filled with gift cards, frisbees and drink tumblers. Dunkin’ Donuts’ mascot, Cuppy, greeted customers on the pink carpet.

“We’re thrilled that the opening of this new restaurant will commemorate our entry into the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Monica Apodaca,Senior Field Marketing Manager, Dunkin’ Brands, in a news release. “We believe Dunkin’ Donuts will receive a warm California welcome from both Santa Clarita residents and visitors.”

A $1,000 check was presented to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita and $500 was presented to Golden Valley High School, said Mallory Schluter, a spokeswoman for Dunkin’ Donuts.

The new Dunkin’ Donuts is located at 27125 Sierra Highway in the city of Santa Clarita.

The new Santa Clarita franchise will be operated by Good Treats, LLC, led by Johnny Andersen and Lars Ottosson, according to a news release. The franchise group has plans to develop 14 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants throughout Glendale, Burbank and the Santa Clarita Valley in the coming years.

Hopefully it doesn’t suck like the one in Encino

  8. I know that family. They are awesome!

  9. Brianna Bricker look at this.

  10. MattKelly says:

How selfish that the family had to be the first at both the drive thru and the front door.

  11. I’ve been going everyday, to see if it’s open but I didn’t go today, n I missed it!! Was there any specials??

  12. Close to school, I hope!

  13. I think it kinda sucks like the one in Encino, it’s no Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. I got a pretzel sandwich, and a dozen assorted, the sandwich was very tough, the donuts were OK, not any better than the mom and pop ones around.

  14. Scott Erviń says:

Do they have a drive through and what is their exact location?

  15. I heard that on the radio this morning. It seems like a lot of people are excited about this! Personally, I don’t like Dunkin Donuts coffee. It is too weak for this Swede! We have them on every street corner! If you remember, Jason, it was you who introduced us to Starbucks. I LOVE Starbucks! I have even been to the original store in Seattle twice. That’s because I have family there, and my niece, Shannon, brought me there! Are you going to try some?

  16. Cynde Janis says:

    It’s about time! :-) Enjoy!

  17. Julia Vargas says:

Nothing close in L.A. ?, a Dunken Donuts downtown L.A.

  18. Yay! Let’s all get fatter!

  19. Steph Steph says:

Scv has dunkin donuts while palmdale has KRISPY KREME lol !!

  20. Have to make this a weekend trip with the boys my love Jordan Mann

  21. Ryan Young says:

40 minutes in the drive-thru line and they were out of most items. Every donut we ordered, as well as both drinks, tasted worse than generic supermarket items. Waste of time and money.

  22. Ed Valencia says:

This is not the first Dunkin Donuts in SCV. There used to be one near Chi Chi’s on Bouquet and Soledad. Their donuts are horrible!

  23. Not to be a downer, but, really? All this hoopla over a DONUT shop? Give me a Trader Joes in Canyon Country…that I can get excited about.

  24. Barbara Ann says:

Didn’t even realize Dunkin Donuts opened up here. Guess I need to drive Sierra Highway more often.

  25. JoeZ says:

This is really great news :-)
