LOS ANGELES – UCLA redshirt senior outfielder Eric Filia was named to the All-Pac-12 team, it was announced by the conference office today. Additionally, Griffin Canning, Kyle Molnar and Luke Persico were each named honorable mention All-Pac-12.

This is Filia’s first career all-conference honor. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native finished the season with a .295 average and led the team in home runs (3) and walks (41). His walk total ranked second most in the conference and he finished as the only Bruin with more walks than strikeouts, posting a 2.1-to-1 walk to strikeout ratio. Filia reached base in 49 of his 55 games played, recording at least one hit in 40 of those contests. Proving to be a versatile player, Filia also made seven starts at first base this season after solely serving as an outfielder and designated hitter prior to this season.

Canning began the season as the Saturday starter before transitioning to the Friday starter role early in the year. The Coto de Caza, Calif. native made 15 starts and went 5-8 with a 3.70 ERA over a team-high 109.1 innings. Canning set a new career-high and finished second in the Pac-12 with 95 strikeouts. He struck out at least five batters in 14 of his 15 starts and lasted at least five innings in every start, including eight starts of seven or more innings. A Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honoree this season, Canning led the team with four complete games and finished with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.75-to-1.

Molnar served as the Sunday starter in his freshman campaign this season. The Aliso Viejo, Calif. native made 13 starts and finished with a record of 5-5 with a 3.32 ERA over 76 innings. Molnar became the first freshman pitcher to start on opening weekend for UCLA since Adam Plutko in 2011. He finished second in the conference in strikeouts among freshman, posting 72, which also ranked seventh best overall in the conference. Molnar delivered several memorable outings, including a start against Washington State in which he retired the final 13 batters faced. In that run of 13 batters retired, he struck out eight men in a row, the longest streak by a UCLA pitcher since David Huff in 2006.

Persico appeared in 55 games, making 54 starts split between third base and first base. The Stevenson Ranch, Calif. native led the team with a .323 average and finished fifth in the conference with 73 hits. He racked up a team-high 22 multi-hit games and recorded at least one hit in 19 of the final 23 games. Persico excelled during conference play, leading the team with a .339 average to go along with a team-high 21 runs scored in 30 games. Since arriving in Westwood, Persico has played in all but three games for UCLA, making 170 appearances over his three seasons.
