A man was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a curb while he was entering the freeway near Soledad Canyon Road and Sand Canyon Road Thursday, resulting in the closure of lanes in the early morning hours.
The 30-year-old Northridge man was ejected from his 1999 Harley Davidson when he hit a raised curb while driving south onto State Route 14 at approximately 12:15 a.m., according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.
A passing 2016 Freightliner big rig driven by Edward R. Mckinney, 53, of Fernley, NV, then struck the bike, which ended up in the number three lane, according to the report.
“Moments later, Mckinney traveling southbound, collided into the stationary motorcycle in the number three lane. It is unknown at this time if (Mckinney) had collided with (the victim). As a result of a collision, (the victim) sustained fatal injuries,” said CHP Officer Josh Greengard, in the report.
A sig-alert was issued for the number three lane and the on-ramp for the southbound Sand Canyon Road exit from approximately 2:25 a.m. to 4:45 a.m., the report said. Another report was issued at 8:43 a.m. but has since been lifted.
The crash is still under investigation and it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
The name of the victim is still pending next of kin notification.
