The SCV Mayor’s Committee for Employment of Individuals with Disabilities will be holding its third annual Business Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
As in past years, the Luncheon will be held at the College of the Canyon’s Institute of Culinary Education (iCUE), featuring a wonderful meal created and served by the college’s staff and students.
The theme of the Committee’s annual business recognition luncheon is Educate-Empower-Employ. This year the Mayor’s Committee will focus on communicating the message to business owners and managers that hiring individuals with disabilities makes good business sense.
Speakers at the event will be discussing the very real benefits that individuals with disabilities bring to a workplace. In the past, hiring individuals with disabilities might have been considered a socially responsible or charitable thing to do. A recent study has shown, for the first time, that companies that championed people with disabilities actually outperformed other companies — driving profitability and shareholder returns.
The Mayor’s Committee looks forward to presenting awards to companies that have been outstanding in their support of individuals with disabilities. Sponsors of the luncheon who have committed $1,000 in support of the work of the Mayor’s Committee will be recognized. Many of the sponsors will also be recognized for their inclusive employment practices.
The invitation to attend is extended to business owners and managers, HR executives and employment professionals. Funds raised from the luncheon will be used by the Mayor’s Committee in its ongoing work, which ultimately aims to increase the number of individuals with disabilities in the local workforce.
The Mayor’s Committee is a nonprofit organization that helps local businesses increase their efforts to hire individuals with disabilities. This includes education on the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities, connection to resource organizations in the community, and connection to organizations that will assist a business in hiring and in maintaining successful long-term job placement of individuals with disabilities.
