[KHTS] – The William S. Hart Union High School District governing board has renewed Superintendent Vicki Engbrecht’s contract for two more years.
“At the time she was brought on, her interest was in accomplishing a certain set of objectives,” said board members Steve Sturgeon. “Recently, she gave us her job performance review and she had met everything that she told us that she would do. We asked her to stay longer and she said ‘yes.’”
Engbrecht is a 39-year Hart District veteran who began her career as a teacher, followed by principal of Canyon High School, Director of Curriculum and Assessment, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent.
She took on the superintendent role in February 2015. Her contract, which was set to end in June 2016, was renewed until 2018 during the closed session portion of the Hart District Governing Board meeting on Wednesday.
“I think we need some stability and she feels that she has the energy and that she’s up for the task,” said board member Gloria Mercado-Fortine. “That consistency and stability is going to be important.”
Board member Joe Messina agreed.
“She’s been with the district for so long and she brought stability to the building. She’s done a great job. She’s come up and through the system. She knows what the issues are, what the needs are,” Messina said, adding that Engbrecht is not taking a pay increase with the new contract.
Engbrecht has lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for about 45 years with her husband, George and raised two sons, both graduates of Canyon High School, who now live in San Diego.
Over the last several months, Engbrecht has worked to implement Common Core, improve school campuses with new performing arts centers and to provide more technology to teachers and students in at the district.
