Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Katie Hill (D-Agua Dulce) attended a rare joint meeting of Congress with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the transatlantic alliance.
“Through my work on the House Armed Services Committee, I’ve been able to examine the real and present threats levied against the United States and our allies — including from Russia,” Hill said.
“The importance of our alliances within NATO cannot be overstated, and today’s display of bipartisanship and unity was incredible to take part in,” she said. “NATO remains the longest-lasting and largest peacetime alliance in the world and I am thankful to Vice President Pence and Speaker Pelosi for organizing the session.”
In his address, Secretary General Stoltenberg addressed America as the backbone of the NATO alliance. He went on to say, “We would not have the peaceful and prosperous Europe we see today without the sacrifice and commitment of the United States.”
In February, Hill attended a Congressional Delegation trip to attend the Munich Security Conference, during which she met with NATO commanders and ambassadors, as well as visited NATO headquarters.
“This is a critical time for both the United States and our European allies and I could not be prouder to celebrate our partnership and reaffirm its strength,” concluded Hill.
