[KHTS] – Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the human remains that were found in an extremely remote area of Pine Canyon, near the Upper Shake Campground in Lake Hughes on Saturday afternoon.
Lt. Lewandowski with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau described the remains as a skull and mandible, or jawbone, with teeth still attached.
“Identification will probably take some time,” said Lewandowski, adding that DNA and dental records will be tested.
The remains did have trauma, suggesting that there may have been foul play involved, Lewandowski said.
“There is a possibility it would be classified as a murder.”
Lewandowski would not go into further detail regarding the trauma.
“It’s hard to say” if the strong rains that hit the Lake Hughes area last month moved the remains, Lewandowski added. “These remains were located in a ravine. They weren’t partially buried.”
Investigators will be looking into reports of missing people in the area although “it’s still very early,” Lewandowski added.
The identity of the remains of the deceased will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website.

That’s the kids name. Hopefully it’s not him.
How sad.. My condolences?
Bryce went missing and no one has heard from him since. I believe it was near Castaic.
..
This article is really old. Has there been any updates???
Trying to find out if they found out who the remains belonged to? I have been watching this case since they came out with it on the ID Channel and reading online.. I would like to know who the remains belonged to and if they have finally found closure in the case of their missing son. Such a heartbreaking story. This thread is old so I would think that something has been figured out by now, on who they belonged to. Thank you..
I too, was wondering this. I did some research but couldn’t find anything about if they identified the remains. I also saw this on Disappeared.
UPDATE: the human skull found in unincorporated Lake Hughes has been determined to NOT be Bryce. The dental examination revealed extensive dental work and the skull is believed to be of an older man who was most likely not caucasian.
There was an update to the Find Bryce page in May 2017.
