Jan. 10: Zen Space – Art Exhibit Reception at Westfield Valencia Town Center
Jan. 10, 2018 6:00 p.m.

The City of Santa Clarita invites you to a free art reception to celebrate “Zen Space,” the latest exhibit at Westfield Valencia Town Center Art Space. Come meet the artist, talk to others that are excited about art, and enjoy light appetizers and entertainment.

Exhibit info:

An artful Zen space is created to symbolize mindfulness. It visually sets the pace of life through meditative figure, zen tea, and singing birds. It reminds people to take a moment in our daily life to breathe deeply and be mindful.

This space features the work of BiJian Fan, an internationally recognized artist born in Beijing, China, and currently residing in Camarillo, California.

Jan. 11, 2018: ARTree – Figure Drawing at ARTree Community Arts Center
Jan. 11, 2018 6:00 p.m.

Are you an artist frustrated with the lack of opportunities to draw in Santa Clarita? Come to ARTree Community Arts Center for a chance to really explore your creative potential, using a live model. Just drop in and bring a pencil and paper.

Every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Thursdays of the month (with additional dates added for November and December).

Jan. 11: Arts Commission at Santa Clarita City Hall
Jan. 11, 2018 6:30 p.m.

The five-member Arts Commission meets on the second Thursday of the month, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Members of the public wishing to address the commission may do so by completing a speaker’s slip upon arrival at the meeting. There is a three minute time limit per person.

NOTE by NOTE is a music showcase presenting audiences with a variety of genres at this free evening of fun. Each month, bands, duos, and soloists will play their own blends of music for your listening pleasure. Come enjoy a wide range of music styles including rock, folk, Celtic, Americana, Blues, Jazz, Country, experimental, Western, and more!

This month’s lineup:

Full Safari: A mix of the Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Nirvana, this band’s shows are full of energy and crowd pleasing fun.

Sammy Montana: 17-year-old pop/rock singer and songwriter who was born and raised in Santa Clarita. She recently released her first EP “Impatient.”

The Buckhenries: A Country/Americana band from Los Angeles, California, and fronted by Abel Gallardo, who got his start in the LA 1980’s Punk/Rockabilly scene.

Abby Lyons: Singer-songwriter, composer, pianist, ukulele player, and Cal Arts grad.

Jan. 13: Celebration of Local Authors at Old Town Newhall Library

Since 2014, the Celebration of Local Authors event has been spotlighting local writers and providing residents with the opportunity to meet with authors and explore their work. This year’s event will highlight approximately 40 local authors, all skilled storytellers in genres including children’s, young adult, fiction, non-fiction, self-help and poetry/short story. Attendees will get the unique opportunity to participate in moderated panel discussions, as well as purchase signed books.

Jan 15, 2018: SCAA Meeting and Artist Demo with Frank Lennartz at Barnes and Noble
Jan. 15, 2018 6:30 p.m.

The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association invites you to attend its monthly meeting featuring a demonstration by artist Frank Lennartz. The main theme will be “The Allure of Water: Breaking the Myth that Water is a Difficult Subject to Paint.”

Lennartz currently teaches two ongoing oil painting classes every week in Montrose and Agoura Hills. He received the prestigious Director’s Choice Award presented by the Carnegie Art Museum, where his painting “A Trek in the Foothills” is part of their permanent collection.

His paintings have been exhibited throughout Southern California including in many of the California Art Club’s Gold Medal Exhibitions, the On Location in Malibu exhibitions held at the Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University in Malibu, and at The Old Mill in San Marino.

Jan. 17: Domes – Artist Reception at Old Town Newhall Library
Jan. 17, 2018 6:30 p.m.

The City of Santa Clarita invites you to meet Naomi Young, the artist featured in the latest exhibit at the Old Town Newhall Library.

The exhibit features original paintings and multimedia by Young, an artist born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel, which translates to “The City of Peace.” Forty years ago, she had to leave Jerusalem, but her love for the city never diminished and can be seen in her artwork on display in the “Domes” exhibit.
