SAN BERNARDINO – Wes Rogers drove in four runs in the first two innings, and the Lancaster JetHawks held off a late Inland Empire 66ers rally in a 9-6 win on Monday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Lancaster (1-4, 39-36) scored four runs in the first inning and added three in the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead against Jose Rodriguez (6-6).
Garrett Hampson reached on an error to begin the first inning rally. Yonathan Daza and Roberto Ramos singled to load the bases and Rogers got Lancaster on the board with a two-run double. Collin Ferguson and Chris Rabago added RBIs later in the frame.
Rogers came up with two runners on and a 5-0 lead in the second inning and tripled to the right field gap.
Peter Lambert (6-6) tossed a quality start to even his record. He allowed three runs on five hits over six innings. Inland Empire (3-2, 33-42) scored twice on three extra-base hits in the third inning and Michael Barash added a run with a solo shot in the fourth.
The 66ers brought themselves within a run in the seventh against reliever Logan Cozart. Brendan Sanger singled home one run and Matt Thaiss tripled off the top of the wall in left field to score two. Cozart struck out Barash to end the threat.
The JetHawks added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings. They loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth but managed onle one run on a Daza double play grounder. Rogers recorded his second triple of the game with one out in the ninth and scored on a Ferguson base-hit.
Alexander Guillen tossed a scoreless eighth inning and J.D. Hammer struck out the side in the ninth to record his first save as a JetHawk.
The win snapped Lancaster’s season-long five-game losing streak.
