The City of Santa Clarita is scheduled to begin road work along Lyons Avenue, between Wiley Canyon Road and Walnut Street, on Monday, June 30, as part of the City’s annual street maintenance program. Construction along this heavily-traveled corridor will only take place at night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday, and is expected to continue through mid-September.
Road repairs will include grinding and paving to provide an enhanced, safer, and smoother ride. Temporary re-striping of traffic lanes will take place in phases to accommodate traffic and construction, and grinding of asphalt will take place between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to help reduce inconveniences.
“The City works hard to assure our roads are safe and smooth. This year we are spending several million dollars on roadway improvements citywide. These efforts contribute to our high quality of life in Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Laurene Weste.
Residents and drivers in the area should anticipate traffic delays throughout construction. Lane closures are expected during construction hours, with partial lane openings for traffic. For example, the inside lane (number one lane) on the westbound side will be closed for a portion of the first half of construction. When the westbound construction begins, the outside parking lane will be a temporary drive lane and no parking will be allowed. The outside lane (number three lane) on the eastbound side of Lyons Avenue will be closed for the second half of the project. Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the change and electronic message boards are in place now alerting drivers of the project.
