lacountyartscommissionlogoThe Los Angeles County Arts Commission, with the city of Santa Clarita, is hosting a town hall meeting to discuss the county’s cultural equity and inclusion initiative next week.

The event will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sycamore Rooms at The Centre, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.

In 2015, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an arts diversity motion that directed the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to establish an Advisory Committee of arts and community leaders within the County to develop recommendations for ways to enhance the participation and leadership of individuals from underrepresented communities in the arts.

The Advisory Committee is made up of 36 community leaders from across a variety of sectors.

As part of the cultural equity and inclusion initiative public process, town hall participants will take an active role in helping shape the future of arts and culture in Los Angeles County. Drawing on input from the community, strategies and tactics will be designed to help shape the goals and vision of the initiative and will focus on increasing diversity in the five key areas of focus (board, staff, audience, programming and creators/artists).

The town hall being hosted in Santa Clarita is one of ten throughout the County. Remaining locations include Northridge, Culver City and Long Beach.

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission is expected to present a full report to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors with actionable recommendations in the fall of 2016.

The town hall meeting is free and open to the public, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP. In order to RSVP, interested attendees can visit Ceii-ArtsForLA.NationBuilder.com/TownHalls.

The Los Angeles County initiative aligns with Recommendation 10.1 of the Santa Clarita Arts Master Plan to “create a Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee of the Arts Commission to promote relevant programming, awareness, and opportunities.”
