standoff[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded Tuesday afternoon to a man threatening to kill himself in an armed standoff on the 29400 block of Abelia Road in Canyon Country.

Deputies are on scene and a negotiator has been contacted regarding the situation, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

Deputies said they are working now to cordon off the area and prevent the man from hurting himself or others.

Neighbors reported the incident began shortly after 1 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate the man is alone in the house and threatened to commit “suicide by cop.”

A neighborhood resident who contacted KHTS AM-1220 notes there have been numerous incidents reported to the address in the past, and said residents of the area “have been alert.”

Neighbors are reporting deputies have left the scene by 4 p.m., however, Sheriff’s Department officials are not yet able to confirm if anyone is in custody.

  6. Louis Esbin says:

    Grant him his wish!

  7. Let him kill himself!

  8. I was there I seen everything can’t believe the guy was not arrested again swinging two knives in the front yard and then he yelling at the cops threatening them takes one knife and throw it at a patrol car and then takes a pellet gun taking aim at the cop cars shooting them its officers at that time we’re taking cover , the suspect told the cops to leave get out of here so the cops told the suspect okay we’re leaving and they just took off just like that like nothing happened the suspect is still in his house

  9. The reason why he did not get arrested according to the sheriff’s is because it’s a family dispute.. I’m kind of curious why didn’t he get arrested for shooting his pellet gun and hitting the police cars and waving his to butcher knives on the grass threatening police officers and telling them how pathetic they are and telling them let’s fight let’s scrap and saying shoot me shoot me and if you’re not going to shoot me get the hell off my property Isn’t that grounds for an arrest?

  12. David Devlin says:

This guy has ben contacted MANY times by the Sheriff…I live in the neighborhood and we are all fed up with this idiot and his idiotic family…someone is going to get hurt or worse before the Sheriff does anything…we are planning to move as soon as we can find a new house

  13. Omg…. He needs some mental therapy!!

  14. @ David Devlin hello don’t move because of some idiotic we live here this is our home I live in the neighborhood as well don’t let these guys win these guys are just renters , I have heard these guys are being evicted so we won’t have to be dealing with these guys much cannot wait for the day.

  15. Lisa Richman says:

Oh no David Devlin you live near this nut? Crazy. Invite him to Northpark Christmas concert. Haha.

  16. Alfonso Estevan Montejano

  17. Can you imagine what Sue is doing??

  18. Bob Haas says:

So sad someone feels so overwhelmed and depressed that they feel suicide is the only way to deal with it. Thank God for the LASD, God please provide them the supported hand to guide them. Please do not let this event scar their Christmas season.

  19. I can’t get much closer than this…that’s my yard. Police department told me there is nothing to worry about. ;-/

  20. You can find out through the Los Angeles County Assessor’s office who the owner is. Maybe you can contact the owner directly and let them know of your problem with the renter. It may help the eviction along if the owner has complaints from neighbors.

  21. Krissy Kjt says:

Super crazy to come home from work and not be able to get to ur home because of some nut job. Nothing to worry about really??? Hmm…

  22. When someone doesn’t get arrested is because the person has been diagnosed with a mental illness, when someone at school doesn’t her expelled or suspended for violence it’s because it’s memtal illness. The law protects people with mental illness and send them instead to a institution or transfer them to another school.

  23. Dustin Clark says:

Jake Thorne did you see this?

  24. Joe Anaya says:

Sounds like at the bare minimum he should have been placed on a mental hold for being a danger to himself and or others. Just my opinion.

  25. Awi Beatty says:

So confused cops had a justified arrest and justified shoot to kill! Neither were done makes me wonder who this special person is! Everyone in the neighborhood should call the Santa Clarita Sheriff station to make a report on the incompetent Sheriff’s! What a disgrace! While the good people in that neighborhood try to sleep with a deranged POS scumbag next door to them! Rest assured Santa Clarita residents the Sheriff’s will be making their quota on tickets given out to law abiding citizens today! Apparently we don’t like to get real bad guys off the streets!

  26. Debi Jones Pelosi, your street….

  27. Dave Lee says:

They don’t arrest anybody in this town.

  28. Anna Rogers says:

Seems like law enforcement can never win, they are dammed if they do dammed if they dont. Sad….

  29. Dave Lee says:

Remember? We recently passed a law making almost everything a misdemeanor. Thank you Jerry Brown.

  30. David Devlin says:

Sylvia Almeida…while I get what you are saying you were not there…I was…you were also not there the other 20 times the police have been out to this guys house…I was …so I can tell you with confidence he is going to harm himself or God forbid someone else. The Police should have taken him to a 72 hour psychiatric hold but they did not

  31. Oh Michelle Hoffmeister I am so sorry. So sad at the mental state that man and his family must be in and the stress it has caused you and your neighbors. Praying for you guys

  32. Holy crap Michelle Hafemeister

  33. The sheriffs department has been called to this house numerous times. Nothing happens. No arrests. He threatens neighbors with knives, drives 80mph down Abelia on his red street bike, fights in the street, and now this.

  34. These young adults live with their mother causing all kinds of havoc in the neighborhood including doing all kinds of drugs in their house it’s known as a drug house

  35. Hello Carla Jung Campbell I’m your neighbor down the street I met your husband yesterday in the street while this was going down… Very disgusted with these people

  36. Thomas Bandy says:

I hope the proceed with caution. Especially the way the cops are getting a bad rap

  43. Jen says:

That’s Darren Gagne….he definitely needs help! I hope that his family can get him the mental help he needs and wish them peace, blessings and strength to resolve their family issues.

  44. Chris Gordon says:
