The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and College of the Canyons will host legally mandated sexual harassment prevention training for employees and supervisors at COC’s Valencia campus on Thursday and Friday, March 28-29.

Senate Bill 1343, which took effect Jan. 1. requires businesses with five or more employees to provide two hours of sexual harassment and abusive conduct prevention training to all supervisors and one hour of such training to all non-supervisory personnel by Jan. 1, 2020.

The Chamber-COC training is designed to help business owners comply with that deadline.

The highly interactive and legally compliant courses will be taught by Dr. Barbara Sweet, a credentialed subject matter expert.

Throughout the multifaceted courses, learners will be engaged in practical exercises and collaborative discussions designed to cultivate inclusive and respectful behavior back in the workplace.

Supervisors
The two-hour course will provide supervisors with essential information about their unmique responsibilities and obligations in preventing and responding to harassment, complying with policy and expectations, and creative a respectful and inclusive work enviornment.

Supervisor training sessions are set for Thursday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., and on Friday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Non-Supervisors
The hour-long course will provide non-supervisorial employees with a comprehensive understanding of the key aspects of harassment, from appropriately identifying and responding to harassment situations to their role in harassment prevention.

Non-supervisor training sessions are set for Thursday, March 28 from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on Friday, March 29 from 7:45 sa.m. to 8:45 a.m.

All training sessions will take place at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center on COC’s Valencia campus, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 91355.
