The City of Santa Clarita will unveil a new art exhibit, “Portraits of the Fallen Memorial,” on Thursday, May 7. The exhibit will be displayed through Saturday, July 11, in space 160 at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, located at 24201 Valencia Boulevard.
Portraits of the Fallen Memorial commemorates the sacrifice of American military service members from California who died serving in the field during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Each honored soldier was matched with a professional artist, who created a portrait of the fallen hero in the medium of his or her choice.
The exhibit will feature 169 art pieces depicting the fallen military members. Seven of the memorialized soldiers were residents of Santa Clarita, including Richard P. Slocum, Cole W. Larson, Jose R. Flores-Mejia, Dennis L. Sellen Jr., Ian T.D. Gelig, Jake W. Suter and Rudy A. Acosta. An accompanying video projection of all 169 pieces will be on rotation at the exhibit.
A free public reception for the Portraits of the Fallen Memorial exhibit will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the art space in the Westfield Valencia Town Center. Guests will be able to greet the artists and enjoy light refreshments as they explore the exhibit.
