GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Master’s College men’s track & field team’s time at the 64th Annual NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships finished on Saturday with three Mustang runners competing on the national stage.
In the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final, TMC’s Michael Sciarra placed ninth overall after finishing the event in 9 minutes and 44.59 seconds. Notably, Sciarra barely missed bagging NAIA All-American honors as the award goes to the event’s top eight finishers.
Later in the day, Joshua Sherfey and Andrew Orona finished men’s 5,000-meter final with final times of 16:21.85 & 16:43.56, respectively. Sherfey first competed on the national stage last year in the same event where he capped off a fantastic freshmen campaign by earning All-American honors. For Orona, Saturday was the freshman’s debut competing amongst the NAIA’s best.
Now, with invaluable experience under their belts, the Mustangs make their way back to Santa Clarita. Looking forward, there is very little doubt that TMC’s track program will be back, competing for more national recognition next year. But for now, the team will enjoy a few weeks off and then begin summer training for cross country.
