After Los Angeles County implemented new district boundaries, I’ve been fortunate to get to know my new district. One addition is the Hollywood Bowl and this week I was there twice. On Thursday, their leadership team, including L.A. Philharmonic CEO Chad Smith, shared a bold vision for the years ahead.

I was grateful to take a tour, from the stage to the top of the Bowl and hear about their plans for what’s to come. The changes they’re envisioning will make the whole experience at the Bowl from start to finish even better, from parking to picnicking to performances. Access for communities remains at the forefront of their mission.

If you’ve ever been to the Hollywood Bowl before, you’ve enjoyed the fruits of Superintendent Ed Tom’s labor. He started at the Bowl 50 years ago as a teenage usher and rose to become director of operations. Just a few days before my tour, I was able to attend his retirement party. His legacy will continue to impact concert goers for years to come. I was grateful for the opportunity to celebrate his career alongside retired Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, who was instrumental in supporting the Hollywood Bowl during his tenure.

This year the Bowl is also celebrating their centennial. During the summer, community members are invited to enjoy a free festival, concerts with some all-star musicians, tributes to legends of the past, memorabilia and more.

It’s a privilege to see all of this excitement unfold and to make way for more opportunities to enjoy the arts for residents in every area of my district.
