[KHTS] – The Miss Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Pageant, “The Magic of the Crown,” will crown new regional queens and princesses Saturday at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the campus of College of the Canyons.
The 2013 royal court, Miss Santa Clarita Valley Kelsie Leach, Mrs. Santa Clarita Valley Rachael Ward, Ms. Santa Clarita Valley Kisha Eltagonde, Miss Teen Santa Clarita Valley Hannah Hobelman Jr., Miss Santa Clarita Valley Lyauna Augmon, Little Miss Santa Clarita Valley Kayla Prieto and Mini Miss Santa Clarita Valley Ella Limones, will pass on their crowns after a two-night pageant that begins on Friday.
The 2014 pageant will feature 37 young ladies and women competing in poise, physical fitness, evening gown and personal interview.
Contestants are also required to perform community service activities to compete in the pageant.
The Friday night pageant will include the preliminary competitions with the finalists announced and crowning ceremonies held on Saturday evening.
Tickets to the pageants are $45 each and can be purchased online. The pageants are open to the public.
“We have a wonderful group of contestants this year,” said Mardi Rivetti, executive director of the Miss SCV Scholarship Pageant.
Contestants will compete in seven age divisions including Little Miss SCV, Jr. Miss SCV, Miss Teen SCV, Miss SCV, Ms. SCV and Mrs. SCV.
Those competing for the 2014 titles include:
Little Miss SCV: Madison Stears, Genevieve Rosale and Sydney Smith.
Jr. Miss SCV: Jessica Judy, Madison King, Dayanara Meza and Brie Pluma.
Miss Teen SCV: Sarah Rafeh, Erika Memija, Emily Hollenback, Lauren Insua, Hannah-Marie Scott and Camila Zakher.
Miss SCV: Emily Chally, Genevieve Caleja, Kelly Armstrong, Yvette Sanchez, Brittany Dubron, Kayla Fernandez, Kristina Arispe, Alaura Koury, Jackie Cardenas, Nicole Dobias, Katherine Cordova and Pamela Campo.
Ms. SCV: Ellen Como, Erika Figueroa, Melissa Perlstein, Oriana John and Dana Hardy.
Mrs. SCV: Terry Hoard, Miriam Robles, Darlene Warner, Julia Reese, Mary K Judy, Holli Wood and Deon Perlstein.
The Miss SCV Scholarship Pageant royalty are seen often throughout the Santa Clarita Valley selling raffle tickets and otherwise assisting at nonprofit events, riding in the Fourth of July parade in Newhall and participating in grand opening ribbon cuttings and other events for the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s about giving back to the community,” said Rivetti. “It is so important for our young ladies and women to become leaders in the business and social life of the Santa Clarita Valley. Assisting the nonprofits and working with the leaders of the SCV is a great experience for these ladies.”
Rivetti stressed that the Miss SCV Scholarship Pagent is not “just a beauty pageant.”
“This program is about serving the community and developing leadership qualities while developing poise and appearance skills,” she said. “This program allows young women to meet leaders in the community and introduces these ladies to the spirit of volunteer service.”
