A motorist was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after being pinned inside their vehicle for more than 20 minutes after it crashed on the northbound lanes of Highway 14, slamming into the center median near Via Princessa.
The solo traffic collision happened shortly before 6:30 a.m.
More than half a dozen firefighting vehicles were dispatched to the scene, said Austin Bennett, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“This call came in as a traffic collision with person trapped,” he said, noting only one vehicle was involved in the crash.
When firefighters with Fire Station 150 arrived and assessed the severity of the wreckage, they called for a truck referred to as a “rolling toolbox,” which contained metal cutting tools, Bennett said.
Using hydraulic shears and other equipment, the trapped motorist was freed from the wreckage at 6:51 a.m., Bennett said.
