In a rematch of last year’s loss to Mt. San Antonio College (2-0), the Cougars (1-1) were much stingier on defense this year, but the Mounties still won Saturday, 17 to 10.

COC limited Mt. SAC to just 321 yards of total offense, but it was Cameron Dean’s 15 yard touchdown pass to Alonzo Agwuenu early in the 4th quarter that gave the Mounties an insurmountable 17 to 3 lead.

Mt. Sac’s defense gave the Cougars huge problems for most of the evening. COC Quarterback Chris Rini was sacked 5 times and was limited to just 122 yards through the air.

Ironically, COC struck first on a 44 yard field goal by Jeff Flores. But just 94 seconds into the 2nd quarter, Mt. SAC running back Matthew Botello rumbled into into the end zone with a 13 yard run. The Mounties would later add a field goal in the quarter and lead 10 -3 at halftime.

COC’s only touchdown of the night came midway through the 4th quarter as Jerrel Jordan found the end zone on a 5 yard reverse. COC did manage to rack up 148 yards on the ground Saturday night.

COC did have one chance to even the score with 6:39 to play, but the drive stalled on the Cougars 29 yard line. The Mounties picked up 4 first downs to run out the clock.

COC will try to bounce back against Citrus College in Glendora Saturday.
