The father of a 3-week-old baby girl reported missing Friday evening has been booked on a murder charge after deputies discovered the child’s body in a Newhall parking lot Saturday morning.

Matthew Warner, 30, of Newhall, was arrested Saturday morning according to Lt. Holly Francisco, Los Angeles County Homicide Bureau.

The victim was discovered inside the cab of a parked truck in the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue around 7 a.m. Saturday and pronounced dead at the scene, Francisco said.

According to detectives, the victims parents walked into the station lobby at approximately 9:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, to report that their baby was missing from their home.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarita Valley Station deputies responded to the 21300 block of Alder Drive, Newhall, to investigate the missing child.

The Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue Team, as well as, Sheriff’s Aero Bureau, and Los Angeles County Search dogs combed the area through the night.

According to Francisco, the suspect led detectives to the area where he believed the victim was Saturday morning.

The victim’s mother is speaking with homicide investigators at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Francisco said.

The Los Angeles Coroner is en route to the crime scene.  The mode of death has not yet been determined.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a female infant that occurred early this morning in the 20600 block of Newhall Avenue, Newhall.

Detectives have learned that at approximately 9:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2015, a man and a woman walked into Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station and reported their 3-week-old infant daughter missing from their Newhall residence.

Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area surrounding the residence throughout the night with no success in locating the missing infant.  The infants father eventually gave information that led deputies to the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue, Newhall, where the baby was found deceased.  She was discovered in the front cab area of a pick-up truck.

The Father, 30-year-old Matthew Warner was arrested and booked at Santa Clarita Station for the murder of his infant daughter.

The exact cause of death will be investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

The mother of the infant has been cooperative in the investigation.

There is no more information available.

    I know everyone is jumping on this guy but it could have been an accident and he panicked.
    I too want to see what the cause of death was.

    My daughter knew Matt when he was 13,14. He went to our church and went through confirmation with her. He was a very sweet kid and was never violent. I know he may have had issues with drugs in later life but that does not make him a monster. He was so proud of his new baby girl, posting pictures of her to all of his friends.

    My prayers go out for this beautiful baby girl,now in heaven I believe, and the mother and father.
