A clerk at Dooly’s Liquor and Market in Newhall was wounded Sunday night when three inebriated suspects came at him with a knife.
Two men – Oscar Jimenez, 19, and Eduardo Salgado, 18 – and one 17-year-old male were arrested a short time later.
The incident occurred at 9:35 p.m. but was precipitated at 8:30 p.m. when the three walked into Dooly’s and allegedly stole beer.
They returned an hour later and demanded that the clerk give them the store’s video surveillance tape, which would have shown them stealing the beer.
“A scuffle ensued and one of the suspects brandished a knife and cut the store clerk on the arm,” said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The clerk sustained a three-inch laceration and needed stitches, Bryski said.
The trio fled from the store and deputies set up a containment zone. They were apprehended on the street and were paraded before the clerk, who made a positive identification.
Apparently they consumed the beer they’re accused of stealing, because it was clear all three had been drinking when they were arrested, Bryski said. One had a knife in his possession.
The were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, as well as theft and intimidating a witness.
The victim told SCVNews.com on Monday that a fourth suspect got away. He said he couldn’t move his arm, which was wrapped in a gauze bandage.
Dooly’s is located at 14th Street and Railroad Avenue, next door to SCVTV.
