Praneel Samal, 9, of Stevenson Ranch, CA recently completed the Math Program at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Stevenson Ranch. Kumon is the world’s largest after-school math and reading program, and its curriculum includes thousands of worksheets covering pre-school to advanced high school material. It took Praneel only 10 months to finish the program.
“When I started Kumon, I imagined myself finishing the program when I was 11 or 12,” said Praneel. “I completed it earlier than I expected by completing about 20 pages a day. Kumon Math has helped me with a lot of new Math concepts that I haven’t learned in school yet. I also learned how to manage my Kumon homework along with my normal school homework.”
In addition to Praneel’s homework and extra-curricular activities, he created a daily routine to complete his Kumon worksheets, even during the summer, holidays, and his birthday—never missing a day. In the Math program, he mastered concepts well beyond his grade level like differential calculus, indefinite/definite integrals and differential equations.
The work and study skills Praneel gained through Kumon also carry over to other parts of his life. This year he skipped one full grade level and advanced to 4th grade, earned 2nd place in his school’s Science Fair, and tied for 1st place in the Math Olympiad. In addition, he is a member of the Boy Scouts of America, competes in his school’s chess club, and practices karate after school.
“Praneel is a highly motivated student and he worked diligently to complete the math program,” said Kareena Gingco, Kumon of Stevenson Ranch Director. “It is remarkable that a student so young would finish the program at such a fast pace. In addition, he always took ownership over his work, challenged himself, and set his own personal goals towards completion. He persevered and achieved his goal and, most importantly, he built valuable math skills that he will continue to use throughout his schooling.”
Praneel is now working towards completing the Kumon Reading program.
