LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 19 UCLA swimming and diving teams host the Bay Area teams this weekend, squaring off with second-ranked Stanford on Friday and third-ranked California on Saturday. Friday’s meet begins with diving at 1:00 p.m., followed by swimming at 2:00 p.m. Saturday’s action begins at noon.
UCLA is 6-1 in dual meets this season, with the swim team coming off a 182-95 victory at Utah on Jan. 16. The Bruins posted the top times in seven events. Katie Kinnear, Madison White, and MP Delisle swept the 200 Fly, while junior Michaela Merlihan and freshman Sandra Soe recorded the top two times in the 1000 Free. Freshman Caroline McTaggart notched another win for the Bruins when she swam the top time in the 100 Free (51.77). White topped the field in the 200 Back – her 2:01.21 bested the competition by three seconds. Freshman Emma Schanz won the 100 and 200 Breast for the Bruins and senior Arlyn Upshaw swam the top time in the 400 IM.
On the boards, the Bruins are fresh off a dominant performance at the Bruin Diving Invitational. Sophomore Maria Polyakova recorded the top marks on the 1- and 3-meter boards; meanwhile junior Annika Lenz took the platform by storm, winning the event by 90 points.
The Bruins are 3-1 in Pac-12 meets, having defeated Oregon State (175-82) on Oct. 24 and Arizona State (180-116) on Nov. 7, while losing to Arizona (160-140) on Nov. 6.
Polyakova will not be competing this weekend as she is competing in the Russian Winter National Championship. She will compete in the 3-meter event only on Jan. 28. Her prelim is at 10:00 a.m., followed by the semifinal at 12:30 p.m. and final at 5:00 p.m.
Stanford is 4-0 on the year, coming off a desert sweep last weekend. The Cardinal cruised past Arizona 181-114 and Arizona State 176-63.
California (5-0, 4-0) also swept the Arizona schools last weekend, defeating the Sun Devils 181-98 and the Wildcats 185-114.
