LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 9 UCLA women’s tennis team opens spring competition this weekend at a pair of tournaments. A split squad will participate in the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., and the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Indian Wells, Calif.
Freshman Alaina Miller, sophomore Kristin Wiley, and senior Kyle McPhillips will join players from some of the top college programs in the country for the 14th annual Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships, to be held at UNLV’s Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The field includes players hailing from five of the top-10 teams in the season’s initial ITA rankings: No. 2 USC, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 8 Stanford, and No. 9 UCLA. Also joining the field are players from No. 16 Duke and host UNLV.
Action begins with doubles each day at 10 a.m. PST on Friday and Saturday, with the finals scheduled for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free. The event features two flights of singles and one of doubles.
Last year, former Bruin Jennifer Brady won the singles crown while Stanford’s No. 12-ranked duo of Caroline Doyle and Ellen Tsay captured the doubles title.
Seniors Catherine Harrison and Laura Luca will compete at the NCTC in Indian Wells.
