Castaic Union School District is proud to announce the recipients of the Castaic Schools Teacher of the Year Award.
Neil Schneider, a 6th-grade teacher from Northlake Hills Elementary School, was selected as the 2018-2019 Castaic Union School District Teacher of the Year.
“Mr. Schneider is a tremendous asset to Northlake Hills!” Said Principal Vivian Fiss. “Neil is always willing to put in time and effort to enrich the lives of our students. I am beyond honored to have him at my school.”
Mr. Schneider is known by his peers for his grant writing abilities, his willingness to plan field trips and assemblies and his commitment to CUSD. In his essay submitted as part of the Teacher of the Year interview process, Mr. Schneider wrote, “I have always tried to make learning fun for my students and make sure that if I’m going to ask my students to do something, I do it as well. The more they see me involved and taking risks, the more they are willing to do the same.”
Mr. Schneider makes personal connections with students and their families, not only his class of students but many students at Northlake Hills. Neal is very active in the Castaic community and is an extraordinary ambassador of our Castaic Union School District!
Other Teacher of the Year recipients were selected for the creativity they brought to the classroom, their ability to reach every student on their level, and even for incorporating afternoon yoga classes into their curriculum.
Teachers representing other Castaic Schools are:
· Jeanie Taron, Castaic Elementary School
· Mike Brodeur, Castaic Middle School
· Beth Smith, Live Oak Elementary School
“Once again I am inspired by our teachers at CUSD,” said Castaic Superintendent Steven Doyle. “The 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year recipients are just a small sample of the outstanding faculty across our district.”
