The San Fernando Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. – a public service sorority – is hosting the 2nd Annual African American College Planning Conference on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Golden Valley High School.

The purpose of this empowering conference is to provide high school students and parents with essential information about how to select, prepare, apply and pay for college.  Our goal is to increase the number of high school students of color in the Santa Clarita Valley who attend college.

All high school students and parents are invited to participate in engaging and informative workshops lead by prominent education professionals.  Workshop topics include: effective strategies to fund college, how to write an impactful personal statement, HBCU 101 – an insider’s review of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and other workshops geared towards motivating and helping students get to college.

As mentioned on KJLH 102.3-FM’s morning radio show, Front Page, with Dominique Diprima, the morning session will begin with a powerful and thought provoking keynote presentation from Kevin Ross (from America’s Court with Judge Ross), who himself is a product of an HBCU and who is also a parent of a child in the midst of the college planning process.

The African American college planning conference will be held at Golden Valley High School, 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway, Santa Clarita, CA 91321 on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 8:00am – 1:30pm.  The conference is open to all high school students.  This is free public event and food and prizes will be provided for registered attendees.
