From Monday, August 10 to Saturday, August 29, 2015, State Route 14 and the Golden Valley Road Bridge at State Route 14 will be subject to night closures to accommodate the Golden Valley Road Bridge widening project.
During the construction, the northbound State Route 14 will be closed from midnight to 6:00 a.m. and the southbound State Route 14 will be closed from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. from August 10 to August 29. Both directions of the State Route 14 will never be closed at the same time. Golden Valley Road Bridge will also be subject to night closures from 9:00 p.m. to 5 a.m. from August 10 to August 29.
State Route 14 traffic will be detoured utilizing respective State Route 14 off-ramps and on-ramps in each direction. In addition, signs will be posted along Golden Valley Road Bridge advertising the closure. Motorists who travel during the early hours through this area are advised to plan on slightly heavier traffic.
The Golden Valley Road Bridge widening project will add an additional two lanes of travel, one in each direction, for a total of four through lanes on the bridge, as well as a dedicated left turn lane to access the southbound State Route 14 and two left turn lanes to access the northbound State Route 14. This project will also add a pedestrian walkway on the north side of the bridge and a bike path on the south side of the bridge.

Well needed upgrade
Should have never been built as an on ramp to the freeway with one lane each way. On top of that its the way to a big shopping center from the freeway. Poor planning and waste of money!
I disagree… That on/off ramp has been like that since I moved out here in the early 80s. It use to be a very private ramp for local residents who lived in the area so the city didn’t have a need for a wider bridge. We only started experiencing a great deal of traffic in that area the last 10 or so years since that big shopping center was built. With growth comes change.
Shirley you are new out here obviously, when this freeway was built there were very few people out here most people wondered what the heck this freeway was going to go to. At that time they used Sierra Highway as a main thorough fare to get up to the Antelope Valley and Vegas.
Linda, we’ve been here since 1966. Populstion33 thousand.Still in the same house right below the target sign. We were here during the building of the freeway and through two earthquakes. The other ramp going to the center from our development is hardly used but the city needed to plan ahead as they know the population growth had more than doubled when they built the frwy. True tho the golden Valley extension made a big difference. Glad they are doing it now.?
Vanessa, my point is that when they built the frwy, they can project population growth 10-20 yrs ahead. The point is, it would have much cheaper to build a 2 lane overpass then. But better later than never.
I don’t know about you Shirley but I hope and pray they don’t open the other ramp. The amount of traffic that will come through that area would be a nightmare. I am glad the city is growing but I am so sad to see that small town vibe we held onto for so many decades seize to exist.
Yes, we’ve enjoyed raising our children and now in retirement we cherish every beautiful day here. I still maintain that there is a unique small town friendliness and atmosphere in Santa Clarita. We were blessed to have been sent out here in 1965,by my Dad, to look for a house. Our 5 bdrm3bath hse was 23,500with.a GI loan, payments were difficult at 117.00 per mo.?
And yes, the other ramp would be horrible for residents near it if they allowed cars to enter.?I use it when I go up to the center tho. It helps.?
