The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley from 6 p.m. Monday through 3 a.m. Tuesday, as a massive Pacific storm is expected to bring rain on Wednesday into Thanksgiving weekend.
The wind advisory calls for west winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph in the SCV overnight Monday, as well as the San Fernando Valley, Ventura County interior valleys, Ventura County coastal valleys, and the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area.
Gusty winds will make driving difficult, could blow around unsecured objects, blow down tree limbs and/or cause power outages. Outdoor objects, including holiday yard decorations, should be secured.
The NWS wind advisory also urges drivers to use extra caution, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.
On Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve, the service predicts a 100% chance of rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 10 a.m. The high temperature will near 56. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Snow levels in local mountains are expected to drop to 2,500 feet Wednesday night into Thursday, with resort areas expecting one to two feet of snow.
The NWS expects 3″ to 6″ of snow in the Grapevine, affecting travel on Interstate 5 north of the Santa Clarita Valley.
On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, the chance of rain in the SCV will be 90%, and possibly a thunderstorm, through Thursday night. The high temperature will near 51.
The sky is expected to be mostly sunny on Black Friday, with a chance of showers and a high temperature near 54. Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a chance of showers, and a low temperature around 37.
Saturday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 55, the service predicts. On Saturday night, there’s a slight chance of rain, with the sky mostly cloudy and a low around 42.
Sunday’s outlook calls for a slight chance of rain, with a mostly cloudy sky and a high near 61.
