1929 - Swift justice: Thomas Vernon sentenced to life in prison for Saugus train derailment & robbery 1 month earlier [story]
Tom Vernon

On Monday, Dec. 26 at approximately 8:40 p.m., an unknown vehicle struck and killed Desiree Renee Lawson, a 15-year-old suspected runaway from the San Fernando Valley, who was in the roadway, in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway, Canyon Country. The suspect vehicle then fled the location.

Traffic investigators believe the female pedestrian was crossing the northbound lanes of Sierra Highway, when she was struck. She was wearing dark colored sweatpants and a black sweatshirt at the time.

Based upon the calls Santa Clarita Station personnel received at the time of the collision, investigators believe the suspect may have been a male Hispanic with a mustache and goatee, wearing flannel.

Investigators would like this person to come forward to provide more information about the collision.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarita Valley Station – Traffic Division at (661) 255-1121.
