1873 - Vasquez gang raids Kingston in (now) Kings County; ties up townspeople, makes off with $2,500 in cash and jewels [story]
Kingston

Santa Clarita planning officials recommended the approval of a new Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center site Tuesday, as well as senior housing and a YMCA facility.

The next move would be for the City Council to review the Planning Commission’s decision and make a final decision.

A planning official said City Council is scheduled to make their determination July 14.

Planners are trying to create a “new heart of the city,” according to officials with Synergy, the developer, and Brookfield Residential, the builder.

“We’re meeting an important need that’s currently missing in the area with the construction of this project,” said Randy Johnson, executive vice president of Brookfield Residential. “The site is adjacent to the new Golden Valley Park, and we believe the addition of a new SCV Senior Center, with the proposed YMCA and homes reserved for seniors will create a new heart of the city.

Brookfield’s Five Knolls is an approximately 247-acre master-planned community roughly bounded by Bouquet Canyon Road on the north, Ermine Street on the east and the Ruether business area (Honby) on the south.

“The Planning Commission approved the motion to go with staff’s recommendation on the project, and approval of the project’s environmental analysis,” said Patrick Leclair, associate planner. Planning officials also requested the final recommendation for City Council have language that indicated the project’s compliance with state water regulations.

The community offers six new residential neighborhoods surrounded by trails, open space and, the home builder notes, five signature knolls.

Construction on the previously approved tracts for Five Knolls are expected to begin new home sales this summer.

Los Angeles County officials approved at least $3 million last October for construction of the new Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. The city is also committing the same amount to the project.

Errr… Ermine would be to the East and current maps must be hard to come by…

    It’s still on the map..

  5. Denny says:

Is this the best map that can be used to inform local citizens of the location of the new Senior Center? The best description seems to be that it’s adjacent to Golden Valley Park but no such park is listed on the City of Santa Clarita web site. Surely, someone could do a much better job of describing the location of this much needed Senior Center.

The map stinks. Ermine? Are there 2? What a mess!

  7. waterwatcher says:

So residents are fined while last night the City planning commission approved another 499 units (just under the 500 amount that would legally require a water supply report). Anybody see anything wrong with this picture?

Newhall Land is proposing yet another unsustainable project built on an old oil field. Would you want to invest in or live in a house built over an old oil field? What are the health and safety implications? Newhall has already received approval for their Landmark and Mission tracts- app. 6000 units total (Mission will be built in an old oil field also), both of which are currently being reviewed by the California Supreme Court. But that hasn’t stopped this company, now owned by an out of state corporation (Lennar) and hedge funds. They have already put out new Notices of Preparation for Homestead (app. 3400 housing units and Entrada North 1250 housing units. Not to mention the 3150 units for North Lake, also beginning their process. Where will the water come from? How will existing residents deal with all the additional traffic and water cutbacks needed to accomodate these new houses? Other communities are not subjected to such massive uncontrolled growth. What is happening in Santa Clarita?
