Readers of all ages are invited to start the summer off on a high note with the Santa Clarita Public Library’s 2015 “Read to the Rhythm” Summer Reading Program from June 8 to July 25, 2015. Online registration is free, beginning on Monday, June 8 at SCVSummerReading.com.
The “Read to the Rhythm” program, presented in partnership with the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library, encourages residents to celebrate literature and music with a variety of summer programming available at the Canyon Country, Valencia and Old Town Newhall library branches, including specially themed story times and literary character programs, DIY crafts, dance classes, guitar design workshops, cooking classes, musical performances and more.
Participants can set reading goals, track their progress and share book reviews online throughout the summer. Each registered reader will receive a “concert pass” according to their age group, which will allow access to all summer reading programs and events.
To accommodate the many families that participate in the Summer Reading Program, some events will be held off-site. These “Rhythm ‘Round the City” events include:
- Wild Wonders presents Jungle Boogie: June 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Golden Valley High School, located at 217051 Robert C. Lee Parkway
- Rusty presents Let’s Go Save the Butterflies: July 17, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at West Ranch High School, located at 26255 Valencia Boulevard
New to 2015, readers can join the Five Book Summer Challenge, encouraging kids and adults to read five items this summer to be entered into drawings for prizes. Upon completing the challenge, children grades first to sixth will receive a free book from Barnes & Noble Valencia by showing their Summer Reading Program certificate. Other prizes for kids and teens, including flutes, recorders, acoustic guitars and amazon gift cards, will be raffled off to readers who completed the challenge.
The program will culminate at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 with a free Summer Reading Program Music Jamboree Finale at Newhall Park, located at 24923 Newhall Avenue. The event will feature prize drawings, sponsor booths, an award ceremony and live performances from The Wacko Show, Terns and Nathalia Palis.
