The Saugus softball team looks like it’s not quite ready to relinquish the Foothill League title.
Saugus beat Valencia, 3-1, and improved to 3-0 in the Foothill League standings. The Vikings lost for the first time in league play.
Karlee Bickford delivered the big blow for Saugus with a three-run double in the sixth inning.
Wendy Cardinali hit a solo home run for Valencia’s only run.
The West Ranch softball team shut out Canyon, 11-0. Wildcats starter Bailey Foster tossed a two-hitter in the five-inning game. She struck out four.
Kylie Sorenson homered, doubled and drove in three runs for West Ranch.
Trinity’s Emily Kim pitched a no-hitter in a 24-0 win over Albert Einstein Academy. She struck out seven and was 2-for-3 with a home run at the plate.
In high school baseball, Trinity beat Newbury Park Adventist, 17-1. Dakota Prochnow had 12 strikeouts in six innings on the mound. Chris Buchanan had three hits and drove in four runs.
Santa Clarita Christian beat Faith Baptist, 15-6. Brandt Anderson drove in four runs and had two hits.
In college baseball, the College of the Canyons beat Citrus College, 16-10, in a slugfest.
Connor Garelick was 2-for-4 and drove in four runs for COC. James Bond homered, drove in two runs and scored three times for the Cougars.
In college softball, the College of the Canyons swept a doubleheader against L.A. Valley College and won the Western State Conference Blue Division. COC won the first game, 7-1, and shut out Valley, 10-0, in the nightcap.
In high school golf, West Ranch won the Foothill League match at Valencia Country Club by five strokes over Valencia, 399-404.
Valencia’s Jonathan Chang shot the low round of the day, even-par 72. Two Wildcats were 2-over. Brandon Dooley and Joey Downey each shot 74s.
In hockey, the Kings can complete the sweep of the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the NHL Western Conference playoffs at Staples Center tonight.
The Kings are up 3-0 and Dustin Brown has scored four goals in the three playoff games.
The Ice Station Valencia is hosting a viewing party with prizes and food specials for the game between the Kings and Canucks. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
