The USA men’s volleyball team swept Germany to win its second match in pool play at the Summer Olympics in London.

Team USA, with Saugus High graduate David Smith, swept Serbia in its first match. But the United States men will be tested in their next match.

The United States plays Brazil, the No. 1 ranked team in the world, on Thursday. Brazil swept Russia in pool play on Tuesday.

Team USA is the fifth-ranked team in the world and won the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

The USA men’s basketball team blew out Tunisia, 110-63, to win its second game in the Summer Olympics.

Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love each scored 16 points to lead the United States. Next up for Team USA is Nigeria on Thursday.

The United States women’s gymnastics team won the gold medal, its first since the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta.

After Day 4 of the Summer Olympics, China leads the medal count with 23. The United States is second with 22. China has won 13 gold medals to eight gold medals for the United States.

The Dodgers made some trade deadline moves to bolster their lineup and their bullpen.

Outfielder Shane Victorino and reliever Brandon League were traded to the Dodgers just before the deadline passed.

Victorino is a three-time Gold Glove centerfielder from the Phillies. He is expected to play left field for the Dodgers. The Dodgers sent reliever Josh Lindblom and a minor leaguer to the Phillies for Victorino.

League notched nine saves for the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Dodgers for a pair of prospects.

On the field, the Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second time in as many nights. The Dodgers lost, 8-2, and dropped out of first place in the National League West standings.
