[Sen. Sharon Runner] – Castaic Middle School in the Castaic Union Elementary School District is honored today for its commitment to improving the achievements of its students. Education experts dubbed this local school a model middle school in the “Schools to Watch – Taking Center Stage” program. Only 15 California middle schools have received this distinction.
“The primary focus of schools must be the students and their education,” said State Senator Sharon Runner (R-Antelope Valley). “With so many challenges facing schools, it is inspiring to see school officials, staff and parents working together to support the students.”
“Congratulations to everyone at Castaic Middle School for this great honor, and keep up the good work,” Runner added.
At the 9th Annual California Middle Grades Alliance (CMGA) Recognition and Appreciation event in Sacramento, school officials gathered to accept a recognition plaque for their innovation.
CMGA is a partnership of 12 organizations dedicated to supporting the education of middle grade students.
“I commend the students, their parents, teachers and administrators, for their efforts in helping make these 15 schools models of excellence,” State Superindentent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said. “Their success is amazing, especially considering they are swimming against the tide of massive budget cuts, crowded classrooms and school employee layoffs.
Sen. Sharon Runner, R-Lancaster, represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles, Ventura, Kern and San Bernardino counties.
