The Saddleridge Fire was 83% contained and a section of the Angeles National Forest remained closed due to the fire as of Sunday 7 p.m., according to an update from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation as firefighters from the LAFD, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Angeles National Forest continue to work in their respective jurisdictions with support from assisting agencies to increase containment and address hot spots.
Tactical patrols will remain in place to monitor the area as low humidity and gusty northerly winds were a concern Sunday until wind subsided.
The public is reminded to please drive cautiously and yield to emergency personnel working in and around the burn area.
As of Sunday night, 660 personnel remain assigned to the Saddleridge Fire across all agencies.
A section in the Angeles National Forest closed by U.S. Forest Service officials last week remains closed.
Approximately 700 acres of the Angeles National Forest’s Los Angeles Gateway Ranger District burned near the Yarnell Road exit off Interstate 210.
Discovered on the evening of Thursday, October 10, the Saddleridge Fire burned 8,799 acres as of Sunday night.
The fire destroyed 19 structures and damaged another 88 structures. One person died of cardiac arrest attempting to fight the blaze; eight firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Local Assistance Center in Sylmar
A local assistance center has been set up at the Sylmar Recreation Center for residents affected by the fire. The address is 13109 Borden Avenue, Sylmar 91342. Phone 818-367-5656. The center will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
