1852 - Acton gold mine owner & California Gov. Henry Tifft Gage born in New York [story]
Henry Gage

terrorist081714[KHTS] A Santa Clarita Valley teen was charged with one count of criminal threats for his alleged Instagram postings, a District Attorney’s Office spokesman said Tuesday.

“The juvenile has been charged with one count of a felony of criminal threats,” said Greg Risling, a representative for the DA’s office.

A 15-year-old Golden Valley High School student was arrested Sunday, after alleged threats he posted to Instagram drew national attention.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in court Tuesday in Sylmar Juvenile Court, Risling said.

The disposition of the case, as far as how the teen pleaded, is not known at this time. All inquiries to the court clerk were referred to the county’s Probation Department in Downey.

From a previous story:

A 15-year-old Golden Valley High School student was arrested around 9 a.m. Sunday in connection with the threats, according to a Sheriff’s Station official.

The threats, which posted through the Instagram account “Yaboyplank,” showed pictures of guns and said: “TO THE PEOPLE OF THE SCV AREA. THERE WILL BE A HUGE (expletive) SHOOTING SOON… ” and went on to say the threat was aimed at high school students.”

A representative of the Detectives Bureau for theSheriff’s Station said the photos appeared to be stock Internet footage and “there is not evidence the suspect has any access to these guns,” accordingto Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Detectives immediately responded to the station to begin working this investigation,” Cambra said. “A police report for Criminal Threats was written. At least twenty-five additional calls from residents alerting us to this post were received during the night.”

Deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Station received a phone call from a woman reporting that threatening posts had been made on Instagram around 10 p.m. Saturday.

The Instagram account used a photo of a Valencia High School in Texas to threaten a shooting in the Santa Clarita Valley in another post.

“Detectives immediately responded to the station to begin working this investigation,” the statement from Cambra read.

The Hart district released a statement to parents Sunday morning saying it “takes threats of this nature very seriously. We are working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“Extra precaution is being taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff on all of our campuses while it’s being investigated,” the statement read.

There have been no cancellation of classes, according to the statement.

This case is currently under investigation.

If you have any information as to who posted these threats, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials ask you call 661-255-1121 or if you would like to remain anonymous, please call the LA Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

  1. Good, now they better try him as an adult!

  2. Good. Make him an example to show kids that this is NOT the kind of attention or “likes” that you want.

  3. I have a feeling that the “people of the SCV” are going to follow this case closely.

  4. Not to completely freak anybody out but did you hear there was another one? A 13 year old. Article was in the Signal online paper yesterday.

  5. As Christine said above, GOOD! I hope they make an example out of him as well! These kids need to learn how serious of a threat this truly is! I hope they also evaluate this young man for possible mental health issues!

  6. Hah idiot. Serves him right.

  7. Nail the little A hole

  8. Needs a full panel pysch eval…

  9. I disagree to try him as an adult , get the kid the help he needs,

    • Love Doris says:

      Do you have children?

    • Oh, because she doesn’t have any she shouldn’t comment. Obviously this kid has some metal issues, probably stemming from a poor home life to begin with…parents should be held just as accountable if not more so for their children’s behavior…

    • Love Doris says:

      Another witless individual ^^

    • Shawna Lemke says:

I do have children. 2 girls to be exact. 1 is 20 & other is 16 (jr in HS). What this kid did was by no means a small thing, but he should not be tried as an adult. We do NOT know ALL the facts. He does need to be punished. He does need to serve his time & does need to be rehabilitated. Also you can NOT ALWAYS blame the parents. Come on people wise up!!!! Yes this kid obviously needs help, but to persecute the parents, whom I’m pretty sure you do not know, is ignorant. So unless you personally know this family, stop with all the ridicules comments. And for the record, I do not know this family, but I’m not going to be judge & jury on them. Leave that to the professionals & concentrate on your family & your children.

  10. Leila Tag says:

IDK about other parents but I follow my kids on SM! Lay down the law they are MINORS! (KIDS)

  11. Kim Regoli says:

Kudos to the lady that called it on and to all the people who took it seriously and took action!

  12. Densie says:

I think what this kid did was really really bad, but I don’t think he needs jail time. He is only 15 and who hasn’t done stupit crap when you where that age? Yes, very very bad, but no intention, no guns, and co-oppotive parents. Let all step back and really think about it. Don’t be so sure that your child wouldn’t be in this postion. I’m sure the last thing these parents thought was “this was my son????” Lots of community service, Fines, and maybe a PSA about the power of social networks! But jail time I think not.

  13. Liane Hayes says:

Instead of having an ankle bracelet for house arrest, he should be given an ankle bracelet that turns off the Internet within a 5 foot radius of him!

  14. What about the kids who “liked” it or commented on it?

  15. Lorena Garay says:

His words were inhuman – he is not a “kid” that needs help! He needs to be put in jail for the safety of our own children, family and community!!! I have no sympathy for this “kid”!

  16. Best lesson they will ever get in how serious this is.
Some parental punishment and community service. That they volunteer for showing they understand the seriousness of the situation.

  17. Courtney Benno says:

Imagine my surprise. I am a student at Saugus.

  18. Yes because his issues will be addressed in jail?? No! .. put him in a mental ward with some intense counseling.

  19. Don Teller says:

Lorena Garay there were no weapons and no plans to get weapons. How is he a threat?

  20. Don Teller says:

I see that he needs psychological help, community service and probation. Not jail.

  21. Dude goes to my school

  22. Don Teller says:

He will just come out mraner with the knowledge how to carry out an attack.

  23. I am so glad my teenagers are grown up. I would not even know how to deal with social media and the havoc it can cause during those manic teenage moments. When we were kids, we said and heard stuff in conversations, that we never meant, and of course would never act upon. With social media, it’s a whole new ball game. I feel sorry for the parents of this kid, as he was just excirsising his stupid, illogical teenage brain and made a bad choice. However, we are at a time in this world that makes threats a reality. I believe this kid , as everyone know that this is unexceptable behavior, but if he is remorseful, he knows a lesson learned. It’s a whole new world out there! Society needs a plan to deal with this type of behavior.

  24. Don Teller says:

Jules do you know him? What is he like?

  25. Don Teller says:

    Yes I have 2 children

  26. Don Teller says:

I am just not prone to knee jerk reactions. A measured response is in order. If he had weapons or plans lock him away.

  27. Don Teller says:

    Nicole Lanzer another reasonable person.

  28. Love Doris says:

    Shannon: do you have children?

  29. I have 4 boys 3of which go to GV.
I am also one of the parents who called and reported this to the police.

  30. What he said was horrible! It also scared the craps out of a lot of ppl..

  31. Don Teller says:

Love doris face it you are over reacting. They will most likely reduce the charge to a misdemeanor which criminal threats can be.

  32. Don Teller says:

Love Doris let me ask you a question are you a republican?

  33. I could see why u feel that way. .Love Doris

  34. I’ve never met an idiot at 15 years old. I have met 15 year olds that made bad decisions. I blame social media for the reaction to his mistake.

  35. Someone told me they did recover guns, how true is this?

  36. Don’t get me wrong. My daughter was at the UCSB SHOOTING! A target to that boys insane mind! It was the worst night of her life, her friends life, our life and the whole worlds life! Threats must be taken seriously! But let’s stick with the facts.

  37. Don Teller says:

There were no weapons or even any evidence of a plan to make an attack

  38. Was he a Student at a local High School!?

  39. I agree, as what he did and said was horrible. Just, he’s a dumb ass teenager…. Who made a very serious mistake..

  40. Don Teller says:

And he needs to pay for his crime in a proportional way.

  41. They’re going to make an example out of him…

  42. Love Doris says:

@NicoleLanser I am glad your daughter was not hurt at the shooting. As a parent myself i can only imagine what you went thru.
Going back to the topic, you state to stick to the facts, right? But do you remember Elliot Rodger, the UCSB shooter?? unlike this “kid” that theyre calling on Instagram, he (Elliot) took his threat to youtube a day before the shooting at UCSB – now going back to the “kid” of Instagram if this teenager didn’t have guns at home does not mean his plan still stands and does not mean that he can not get a gun from anywhere to accomplish his threat! Lets be smart people and think!!!!!

    • EXACTLY! Apparently Mr. “Know it all” Don Teller has ALL THE “ANSWERS!” I don’t even think this DOUCHE READ THE SERIOUS THREATS! Don Teller, “are you a DEMOCRAT!”

    • EXACTLY! Apparently Mr. “Know it all” Don Teller has ALL THE “ANSWERS!” I don’t even think this DOUCHE READ THE SERIOUS THREATS! Don Teller, “are you a DEMOCRAT!”

  43. I was scared too, and rightfully report it! Of course! I would have reported it as well! Threats should be taken seriously! But after an investigation, if he’s not found as a threat, just…. Duh…. Maybe he was just craving attention or something.

  44. Love Doris says:

Shannon and Don are the same person. Hmm?

  45. This kid needs mental help not jail time….MURICA

  46. I agree with most people. I have kids at VHS. I don’t care if they didn’t find guns. The things he said were on a psychotic level. I’m sorry, but “just trying to get attention”? Please. That’s probably what everyone said about all the previous nut jobs that shot up schools. And if they don’t make an example out of this kid, what’s going to stop every hate filled kid in this valley from following his lead? How ignorant can people be? If they let him get away with it and he goes through with his threats, what will all of you be saying then?

  47. Don Teller says:

Love Doris you are paranoid as well as your other faults. We actually don’t know each other. I do know nicole however

  48. Love Doris says:

@NicoleLanser i rest my case with you seriously. #pathetic Im thinking you are being bogus about your daughter being part of the UCSB tragedy by studying your thoughts/comments.

Youre going to tell me this beast was also seeking attention right? Smh! All threats should be punishable and taken serious.

  49. Don Teller says:

Love doris has no love she is a hater pure and simple.

  50. Don Teller says:

Love doris you are an ass her daughter was at UCSB during the shooting I know that to be true you hater.

  51. Good. Hopefully he will be tried as an adult. The parents should also be held accountable.

  52. Love Doris says:

At Don: Because i disagree unlike you, that this pc of sh*t should serve time for his threat; that makes me a hater? Hahahahaha ahahahahahaha what an #idioticstatement

  53. Don Teller says:

I see where you get your arrogant attitude from you attended the University of Spoiled Children.

  54. Don Teller says:

There needed to be some plans to carry out the attack or plans to get weapons for there to be intent to commit the act.

  60. Criminal intent is a necessary component of a “conventional” crime and involves a conscious decision on the part of one party to injure or deprive another. It is one of three categories of “mens rea,” the basis for the establishment of guilt in a criminal case. There are multiple shades of criminal intent that may be applied in situations ranging from outright premeditation to spontaneous action.
It is possible to establish criminal intent even when a crime is not premeditated. Individuals who commit a crime spontaneously may still understand that their actions will cause harm to another party and contravene existing criminal law. In other words, an individual that takes or withholds action with the knowledge that such behavior will lead to the commission of a crime can be said to possess criminal intent.

  62. Hans Ahlert says:

This system isn’t set up for people getting help with mental issues when a crime has been committed. Some of these over-educated morons feel that to deem someone insane is to let them off the hook . The issue of Legally insane vs. Clinically insane needs further scrutiny.

  68. I’m not saying slap him on his wrist And let him go! What he did was very wrong, especially when kids around the country are following thru with horrible acts of violence. Teach his butt a lesson and an example to other kids to show that those threats will not go unpunished, But to try him as an adult sorry I don’t agree with that.

  70. Tawny Biggs says:

Teens act out this way because of emotional problems and most of the time issues at home! We all have issues at home some just have worse than others or this child suffers from a low self esteem and needs help and therapy. The family and the child need help not jail, not to be tried as an adult!! And to all you people who think so your own children probably have their own issues because the aggressiveness that some of you are displaying now… I could only guess how you demeaned your own children. Be careful not to fall off those high thrones!

  71. Kid deserves everything he gets he didn’t make a post out of anger he put time and thought into this
