0714-rock-delgados-bwThe Delgado Brothers, fresh from their win at the 2016 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where co-founder Joey Delgado also won the Albert King “Best Guitarist” honors, bring their spirited East L.A. rock ’n’ soul back to the Valencia Jazz & Blues stage on the street outside the Hyatt Valencia Friday night starting at 7.

Delgado brothers Joey, Steve (drums) and Bob (bass) with longtime bandmate David Kelley (Hammond B3) whupped more than 250 acts from 40 states and two dozen countries in four rounds of competition to win top honors.

Founding their band 45 years ago, The Delgado Brothers are also past guest stars on SCVTV’s “House Blend” music and interview show, hosted by yours truly.

The all-ages Jazz & Blues concerts are free; a portion of food and beverage vendor proceeds goes to local charities.

0714-rock-suzanne-harper-citp-xxxx15Country Showdown Throwdown at Central Park

Saturday night, Santa Clarita’s “Concerts in the Park” series at the city’s Central Park features a headlining set by Suzanne Harper, last year’s local winner and a two-time national finalist in the annual Country Showdown competition.

Opening the show for Harper are the three Santa Clarita Valley-area finalists in the 2016 Showdown — Jarett JamesSavannah Burrows and Joshua Wade Aigner.

They were among 11 local artists who auditioned at Keyboard Galleria Music Center on Soledad Canyon Road. Judges were KGMC owner Dennis Webber, Vibe Performing Arts Center and Music Studio founder Andrea Vibe, and veteran vocal coach Kim Treat.

Based on Saturday’s performances, the judges will choose one of the three finalists to advance to the regional finals at Knott’s Berry Farm in Anaheim in September.

Read more about it on the KHTS and Country Showdown websites, and get a line on upcoming Concerts in the Park here. You can also watch the city’s Mike Fleming deliver a preview of the 2016 series.

0714-rock-hb-nacosta-022512 (01)Delgados & Sherry Pruitt on SCVTV’s ‘House Blend’

Speaking of The Delgado Brothers on SCVTV’s “House Blend,” their show with R&B-gospel-soul singer Sherry Pruitt gets an encore broadcast Saturday night at 10. It’s one of the highlights of Season 2, from spring 2012.

In the same half hour: an early performance by neo-psychedelic alt-pop folk-rock band Nacosta from the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles.

Brothers Shane and Brandon Graham with bandmates Brent Rowley and Kévin Baudouin play a couple tunes from Nacosta’s debut EP, “Wilderness City,” out just a few months before this live appearance.

Watch “House Blend” on Time-Warner/Spectrum Channel 20 in the Santa Clarita Valley, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 in L.A. and Orange counties, and streaming everywhere at scvtv.com.

And that’s what’s thumpin’ this week on the SCV Rock Beat.
