1997 - Five bodies found during grading of Northlake development in Castaic; determined to be Jenkins graveyard [story]
reburial

[KHTS] – A Santa Clarita man who’s a convicted sex offender could face life in prison if convicted on child molestation charges, a deputy district attorney said Thursday.

county_handcuffsYale Yurman, 70, of Valencia, was arrested in July after Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies received complaints that Yurman allegedly was following children and filming them without consent, said Sheriff’s Station Deputy Josh Dubin, at the time of the arrest.

A plea deal negotiation in Yurman’s case hasn’t been ruled out, said Ani Bailey, the deputy district attorney in charge of the case’s prosecution.

She declined to mention the specifics of the deal offered because it was not on the record.

Yurman’s criminal record is part of the reason for the lengthy prison sentence he could face, if he’s found guilty.

There are four charges listed on Yurman’s page on the Megan’s Law website: annoy or molest a child under 18; lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age; lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age by force or fear; and oral copulation with a minor under 14 years of age.

Detectives were able to identify four locations where Yurman allegedly followed the girls, three of which are in the Santa Clarita Valley. The locations were identified as Target, Walmart and the Real Life Church in Valencia.

Another location was the Santa Monica pier, according to a Sheriff’s Station news release.

Yurman is being held on $1 million bail.

He’s due back in court on June 2 for a pretrial hearing, Bailey said.

If there are no changes in the disposition of the case, jury selection is expected to begin June 12.

California’s Megan’s Law provides the public with certain information on the whereabouts of sex offenders so that members of our local communities may protect themselves and their children.

KHTS AM-1220 created a map based on Megan’s Law entries which is available by clicking on the link above.

Back in the late 50s I went to camp in NY and there was a counselor there who played the guitar named Yale Yurmin. I thought it was spelled Yerman so it might be someone else, but it sure as heck looks like him around the eyes and nose and he’d be about 70 by now. I would love to find out. How many Yale Yurmin’s or Yerman’s could there be out there? I am going to call the camp to see if they still keep employee records from back then. Highly doubt it but worth a try.
