The Hart football team is getting on a roll. The Canyon football team suffered its first setback of the season.
Hart traveled to Bakersfield to play Ridgeview and the Indians won their second game in a row. Hart beat Ridgeview, 49-27, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter.
Hart quarterback Connor Wingenroth scored four rushing touchdowns and gained 159 yards on seven carries.
Canyon, the No. 1 team in the Northern Division rankings, lost a shootout in the Antelope Valley, 56-49, against Quartz Hill. Canyon quarterback Cade Apsay has another huge night with 329 yards passing and four touchdowns.
But Quartz Hill running back Osirius Burke had a bigger night with 257 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
The Valencia football team won its first game of the season, 48-9, over Righetti. Vikings quarterback Sean Murphy threw for 229 yards and five touchdowns.
West Ranch lost to Thousand Oaks, 28-10. Wildcats running back Zahr Lyttle scored the only touchdown for West Ranch on a 44-yard run in the first quarter. He had 84 yards on 11 carries.
The Golden Valley football team lost another close one, 17-10, to Agoura. Grizzlies running back Leon Jacobs rushed for 169 yards, but Golden Valley lost its third game in a row.
The Saugus football team, playing without starting quarterback Chris Hamilton, lost to Ventura, 10-7. Sophomore Marc Langhorn made the first start of his varsity career at quarterback and guided the Centurions to a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
But he also threw two interceptions and Saugus lost its third game in a row.
The Santa Clarita Christian football team beat Vasquez, 42-0. Derek Lewis rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns for Santa Clarita Christian.
The Trinity football team lost to Desert Christian, 35-30, and blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.
In college football, the College of the Canyons lost to Desert College, 48-30. The Cougars are 0-3 to start the season.
The USC Trojans, ranked second in the nation, lost to No. 21 Stanford, 21-14.
No. 22 UCLA beat Houston, 37-6, to improve to 3-0. Valencia High graduate Steven Manfro scored on a 14-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He was the leading receiver for the Bruins with seven catches for 78 yards.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Cardinals, 5-2, in 12 innings.
