BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Seven Bruins received ACWPC All-America honors for the 2016 season, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced Thursday. Mackenzie Barr was selected to the First Team, while Devin Grab and India Forster earned Second and Third Team accolades, respectively. Alex Musselman, Kelsey O’Brien, Charlotte Pratt, and Alexa Tielmann received honorable mention nods.
Barr, a junior from Irvine, Calif., led the Bruins offensively this season with 44 goals and 28 assists. A 2016 Cutino Award finalist, Barr compiled six goals, two assists, and seven steals throughout the NCAA Tournament in May, which earned her a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament First Team. The First Team All-MPSF selection was selected to the MPSF All-Tournament Team after UCLA secured a third-place finish in the tournament with a 7-5 win over sixth-ranked Cal. Defensively, the junior tallied 40 steals and 13 blocks. This is Barr’s second straight ACWPC All-America honor. As a sophomore, she received an honorable mention nod.
Sophomore attacker Grab was second on the team in scoring (42) behind Barr. She earned MPSF Player of the Week honors after she put away the game winner on a penalty shot to lift the Bruins over Stanford in sudden-victory overtime (April 23). Grab led the squad in scoring with four goals on six shots in the 9-8 win. Overall, Grab recorded 34 steals, 14 blocks, and 26 assists. Excelling in the classroom as well, Grab leads the squad with a 3.496 cumulative GPA, which earned her MPSF All-Academic honors. This is Grab’s first ACWPC All-America honor.
Forster, a senior center from Woodland Hills, Calif., was fourth on the squad in scoring with 37 goals. The Bruin led the team in earned exclusions (43), while tallying 15 steals and three blocks. The All-MPSF Second Team member was also an MPSF All-Academic honoree. This is Forster’s first ACWPC All-America honor.
Senior goalkeeper Musselman tallied 151 saves for an 8.04 saves average in her final season as a Bruin. Due to two pivotal saves by Musselman in the final minute of play, the Bruins held Michigan at bay to secure a third-place finish in the 2016 National Collegiate Women’s Water Polo Championship in May. Musselman posted 20 starts in 23 games and recorded 17 steals and 11 assists. This is Musselman’s first ACWPC All-America honor.
O’Brien, an attacker from Santa Barbara, Calif., recorded 25 goals and 20 assists on the season. Defensively, she tallied 11 blocks and a team-high 41 steals. The junior earned MPSF All-Academic honors for her performance both in and out of the pool. This is O’Brien’s first ACWPC All-America honor.
Senior defender Pratt notched 19 goals in her final season as a Bruin, earning her an All-MPSF honorable mention nod. Overall, Pratt recorded 20 steals, a team-high 15 blocks, and 18 assists. This is Pratt’s first ACWPC All-America honor.
Tielmann earned MPSF Player of the Week honors for her performance in UCLA’s 16-6 win over Arizona State (April 15). She led the Bruins in scoring against the Sun Devils, putting away four goals on four shots. The redshirt junior was fifth on the team in scoring, posting 35 goals on the season. Tielmann was selected to the All-MPSF Second Team and earned MPSF All-Academic honors as well. This is Tielmann’s first ACWPC All-America honor.
