TeamFirst Soccer Academy kicked off their Santa Clarita camp on Friday, Dece. 11, 2015 at Central Park featuring Olympic gold medalists and soccer stars Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly and Tisha Venturini Hoch to teach and inspire young soccer players.
“To be able to be here and share our love and passion of the game with the youth of Santa Clarita and the surrounding areas means a lot to us,” said Mia Hamm. “We all grew up playing on fields like this and being a part of our community.”
Despite the cold temperatures over the weekend, Central Park and The Master’s College hosted more than 100 eager participants ready to learn from the best. Friday through Sunday was the first time the renowned program had ever come to Southern California.
Carlos Marroquin, owner of Old Town Newhall business Planet Soccer and the Santa Clarita Blue Heat soccer team, has been reaching out to the program to come to Santa Clarita for two years.
“Mia Hamm is a legend. It’s fantastic for everybody, but especially for the little ones. She’s a hero for many players,” said Marroquin.
While learning techniques and developing soccer skills from three female soccer stars is the order of the day, TeamFirst Soccer Academy also focuses on inspiring young players with self-confidence.
“Believe in what you bring every single day, whether it’s on the field, your classroom, your community or with your family,” said Hamm. “Truly believe you’re worth investing in. That’s one of our strong messages, especially for the young girls here. They have value, they have worth and they should go after their dreams.”
