The Master’s University women’s soccer team improved its 2016 record to 8-4-3 (4-2-1 GSAC) Thursday afternoon after posting a 3-0 victory over William Jessup University (5-9-1, 1-5-1 GSAC) on Reese Field.
Notably, Thursday’s win comfortably slots the Lady Mustangs in fourth-place in the GSAC with 13 points.
TMU’s fourth shutout of the season commenced when freshman forward Hannah Bahr (Santa Clarita, CA) scored an unassisted goal from 30 yards out at the 32:51 mark.
The Lady Mustangs extended their lead to 2-0 10 minutes after halftime (56:16) when freshman forward Sydney Robinson (Ontario, CA) scored from six yards out after connecting with a cross from sophomore forward Lynnae George (Mill Creek, WA).
Finally, with nine minutes left to play (81:24), sophomore forward Hailey Gomillion (Lancaster, CA) gave TMU a 3-0 advantage off a penalty kick.
Offensively, Bahr paced the Lady Mustangs’ offensive efforts with two shots and two shots on goal. Lady Mustang goalkeeper Jessica Zubia (Bakersfield, CA) had a quiet day as the Warriors failed to post a shot on goal.
Collectively, the Lady Mustangs outshot the Warriors 9-3.
Commenting on Thursday’s victory, TMU head coach Curtis Lewis said, “‘One game at a time’ has been our theme. This should always be the case, but for us having so many injuries this year, we have had live it out. I’m very proud of our reserves who stepped in again today and really gave us a boost. It was great to get everyone on the field, and for us to be this deep where we can play our full bench and get a result is fantastic. We have a tough game on Saturday that will be a great challenge for us. We are looking forward to seeing what we can do.”
Now, the Lady Mustangs will battle Menlo College (7-5-2, 2-4-1 GSAC) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. on Reese Field. Notably, Saturday is senior day for the women’s soccer team. Before Saturday’s match the seniors on TMU’s women’s soccer team will be honored and recognized for the contributions they’ve made for the Lady Mustangs both on and off the field.
