Double-stabbing suspect Raymundo Soto has pleaded innocent to four counts including the attempted murder of Daniel Muir in his Canyon Country home on Jan. 29.
Muir said he’d returned to his home on Loretta Lane after a year’s absence to find his wife living with the 35-year-old Soto. Muir suffered eight stab wounds following an alleged attack by Soto. The suspect then allegedly stabbed himself to make it appear as self-defense.
On June 18, Superior Court Judge Terry A. Bork ordered that there was sufficient evidence for Soto to stand trial on four charges: 1) Attempted murder; 2) Assault with a Deadly Weapon; 3) Carrying a concealed firearm; 4) Carrying a loaded firearm in public. The first two are felony counts, the second two are misdemeanors.
According to sheriff’s officials during the early evening of February 29 the alleged victim, Muir, returned to his home at the 28800 block of Loretta Lane in Canyon Country. Muir, who hadn’t been home in a year, discovered that his wife, Jessica Jackson, 30, was now living in the home with Soto.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. rescue personnel from Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call to the home for a stabbing victim. What authorities discovered were two victims with stab wounds.
Muir contends he was gathering his belongings with the intention of leaving the house when he was allegedly attacked by Soto with a knife. Muir suffered eight stab wounds but managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s home for help.
Although Soto also had stab wounds, authorities suspect those injuries were self-inflicted. Both men were transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo Hospital.
Soto was taken into custody on April 4 and was found in possession of a firearm which lead to additional charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a concealed firearm within city limits. Officials say no arrests were made the night of the incident because further investigation was needed.
Jackson was arrested on the same day as Soto, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office chose not file charges. She was released on April 6.
Originally Jackson was considered an accessory, but is now serving as a prosecution witness.
The trial is set to begin July 23rd in Los Angeles Superior Court.
