The stars came out Friday to the Centre Pointe Walmart store for the midnight release of “The Hunger Games” movie on DVD and Blu-ray.
Santa Clarita fans lined up outside for a chance to meet Jack Quaid (actor Randy Quaid’s nephew), who plays Marvel, the male tribute from District 1 in the 74th annual Hunger Games; and Dayo Okeniyi, the Nigerian actor who plays Thresh, the male tribute from District 11.
Santa Clarita was one of five select cities across the country where Lionsgate Entertainment sent actors to Walmart stores to promote DVD and Blu-ray sales – the others being Dallas, Miami, Phoenix and Marietta, Geo.
“Together with Lionsgate Entertainment, we are providing Hunger Games fans with a unique and fun way to celebrate and purchase one of the most anticipated DVD releases of the year,” Walmart Senior VP Seong Ohm said in a statement. “When it comes to entertainment, whether it’s through our broad selection of new releases or licensed merchandise, customers can rely on Walmart to carry the items they want at a price they can afford.”
Quaid and Okeniyi signed “Hunger Games” products purchased by fans at the store. The promotion included a chance to win tickets to the Hollywood premiere of the second “Hunger Games” movie, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” due out in November 2013.
