Peter Lambert struck out eight over six strong innings, but the Lake Elsinore Storm pulled away late to knock off the Lancaster JetHawks 13-1 on Thursday night at The Hangar.
Lake Elsinore took a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning. They scored four times in the eighth and added seven in the ninth.
Lambert (7-7) retired 14 of the final 17 hitters he faced, but allowed a solo homer to Wilfri De La Cruz on an 0-2 pitch with two out in the sixth that put the Storm up for good. The right-hander surrendered five hits and did not walk a batter.
Lake Elsinore took the game’s first lead with a run in the second. Carlos Belen was hit by a pitch to open the frame and later came around on an RBI single by Taylor Kohlwey. Wes Rogers tied the game for the JetHawks with a solo homer in the fourth, his sixth of the season.
De La Cruz led the way for Lake Elsinore with three of the Storm’s 15 hits and three runs batted in. Kohlwey and Austin Allen also had three RBI apiece for the Storm.
Adrian De Horta (1-0) earned the win for Lake Elsinore. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Gerardo Reyes followed with a pair of scoreless innings out of the Storm bullpen and struck out two. Trevor Megill put the first two batters on in the ninth, but escaped with no runs allowed.
Hamlet Marte recorded three of Lancaster’s six hits in the contest, including a double. Marte’s batting average now sits at .326. Yonathan Daza, the league’s leading hitter with a .365 average, went 1-for-3 with a walk.

The JetHawks open a four-game series with the Stockton Ports on Friday night at The Hangar. Right-hander Trey Killian (6-4) will start for Lancaster against right-hander Brandon Bailey (1-0). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
